Capital transfers

Transfers of assets between individuals, by gift or bequest, where the recipient regards the receipt as an addition to their capital rather than part of their income. In the UK these were subject to the capital transfer tax, with small amounts allowed to be exempt. The capital transfer tax was replaced by the inheritance tax in 1984.
