Consumer price index (CPI)
 

 

A price index covering the prices of consumer goods. The UK CPI is the measure of inflation that is used for macroeconomic purposes and it forms the basis for the inflation target. The CPI is also used for international comparisons. See also GDP deflator; retail price index.
