Industrial bank


Another name for a finance house, i.e. an institution providing hire purchase credit; mainly applied to the smaller institutions, of which there are large numbers outside London. Although receiving deposits and making loans and other financial activities ancillary to their hire purchase business for consumer and capita! goods, the industrial banks do not offer a full range of banking services like the commercial banks.
