That branch of the law dealing with civil actions arising from breach of a duty imposed by common law or statute and dealing with injuries to the person or his property. It should be distinguished from the law of contract which deals with breaches of duties arising out of transactions entered into by mutual consent. Examples of offences in tort would be trespass, deceit and libel.
